When your goal is to lose weight, it is essential to create a negative energy balance (calorie deficit). e.g. you are expending more calories than you are consuming.
CALORIE SURPLUS
Whereas if your goal is to put on weight, it is essential to create a positive energy balance (calorie surplus). You are consuming more calories than you are expending.
Essentially you could lose body fat eating pizza every day, as long as you were in a 'calorie deficit', but from a nutrient and fuelling perspective, it wouldn't be advisable!
